Notes:
Madelene Sagstrom, a professional from Sweden, has qualified for the U.S. Women's Open after posting an 8-under-par 136 for medalist at a 36-hole sectional at Dunwoody Country Club.
Two players tied at 4-under-par 140, so a playoff was needed to determine the final qualifying spot and the first alternate position. Professionals Jackie Stoelting of Veto Beach, Fla. (69-71), and Madeleine of Boise, Idaho (69-71), returned to the 18th tee for the playoff. After both making par on 18, the extra holes continued to the 10th tee. On the second playoff hole (#10), Stoelting made birdie to earn the second qualifying spot, while Sheils made par to finish as first alternate.
The second alternate spot would be decided between a pair of players at 3-under-par 141, including Min Seo Kwak of the Republic of Korea (70-71) and Jessica Welch of Lavonia, Ga. (69-72). Welch was not present at the start of the playoff, so Kwak finished the second alternate position.
Dunwoody Country Club played to 6,679 yards and a par 72.
The 71st U.S. Women's Open Championship will be held at CordeValle in San Martin, Calif., July 7-10. The U.S. Women's Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
