It took an extra day, but the 36-hole qualifier for the U.S. Junior Amateur is complete and Peter Chung of Dacula, Ga., earned medalist honors after posting a 3-under-par 139 (70-69). Justin Kim of Rome (69-71), who recently won the Georgia Junior Championship at Athens Country Club, tied for second with Ben Carr of Columbus, Ga., (66-74) at 2-under-par 140. Earning the final qualifying spot was Jake Forgay of Augusta, Ga., who finished at 1-under-par 141 (70-71).


Trent Phillips of Inman, S.C., came in at even-par 142 (70-72) to claim the first alternate spot, while Turk Pettit of Auburn, Ala., finished as second alternate at 1-over-par 143 (74-69).


After 18 holes of play, 48 players made the cut at 7-over-par 78 and better.


Due to severe weather in the Athens area on Monday, play was suspended at the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The qualifier resumed Tuesday morning at 8:00 a.m.


The 69th U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be held at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tenn., July 18-23, 2016. Entries were open to male amateur golfers who have not reached their 18th birthday by July 23, 2016, and have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 6.4. The U.S. Junior Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
