Stan Gann Jr. wins Georgia Public Links in dramatic fashion
HAWKINSVILLE, Ga. --- It came down to the wire and in dramatic fashion, Stan Gann Jr. of Warner Robbins defeated John Kennedy of Macon in a playoff to win his first Georgia Public Links Championship. The 29th playing of the Georgia Public Links Championship took place at Southern Hills Golf Club, September 9-10.
Stann Gann, Jr. and John Kennedy were tied going into the 18th hole. After hitting his tee shot into the trees, Gann Jr., managed to get the ball out just off the green. Kennedy nailed his tee shot down the middle of the fairway and his second shot set him up with chance to win the Championship.
Kennedy's putt came within inches of falling but did not go in. Stan Gann Jr. sunk a pressure putt to force a playoff.
In the playoff on hole #18, Gann Jr. sunk another putt this time to win his first Georgia Public Links Championship. Both players finished with a total score of 139.
Following the leaders was Nate Gahman of Leesburg who finished with a (68-74) 142. Defending champion Chris Waters finished in sixth place with a (72-76) 148.
In flight 1, Alex Lanier of Warner Robbins won with a score of (77-75) 152.
In flight 2, Ladell Norton of Rome won with a score of (81-77) 158.
In flight 3, Jack Sullivan of Marietta won with a score of (90-81) 171.
This event was open to male amateur golfers who are members of a GSGA Member Club that is open to public play. Entrants must not have held privileges since January 1, 2017, at any club that does not permit public play.
