2017 Women’s Team Championship


Brenda Pictor, Susan Rheney Win Georgia Women's Team Championship


GREENSBORO, Ga. --- Brenda Pictor of Marietta and Susan Rheney of Greensboro hold on to their round one lead to win the Georgia Women's Team Championship by two strokes at 7-under-par 137 (71-66). The 32nd edition of this competition took place at Harbor Club, September 18-19.

 

Pictor and Rheney doubled their lead from one stroke to two over the course of the 36-hole competition for the win. Donna Gonsalves of Johns Creek and Shelly White of Atlanta earn runner-up honors at 5-under-par 139 (72-67). The duo of Danielle Davis of St. Simons Island and Rebeca Garcia of Marietta finished third at 1-under-par 143 (73-70) to round out the overall top three.


This win marks the first for Rheney and second for Pictor. Pictor paired with Ginette Spinucci of Stone Mountain to win in 2008 at Sea Palms Golf Resort on St. Simons Island.


In the Net division, JoAnn Setliffe of Woodstock and Jinna Wheeler of Mineral Bluff won flight one at 7-under-par 137 (67-70). Mara Bushee of Augusta and Charlotte Johnson of Evans claimed the second flight at 8-under-par 136 (64-72). In flight three, two teams share the honor at 3-under-par 141, including Ann Clark of Centerville/Dawn Young of Douglasville (68-73) and Nancy Abraham of Albany/Helen Kirbo of Albany (66-75). Another tie for flight honors came in the fourth at even-par 144: Brenda Evans of Fort Valley and Darla Stahl of Centerville (64-80) and Laura Morris of Big Canoe and Kay Smith of Jasper (63-81). In the fifth flight, Linda Fitzpatrick of Bonaire and Sandra Lee of Perry won at 8-over-par 152 (69-83).

 

This event was open to two-person teams of female amateur golfers who have a maximum handicap differential of eight strokes. Competitors must be at least 18 years old as of the first day of competition. Round one will consisted of 18 holes of four-ball gross stroke play for the Championship Flight and four-ball net stroke play for remaining flights. Round two is scramble format. The Championship Flight will compete from a separate set of longer tees than the flighted division.
