Notes: 

Deven Broadaway of Adairsville posted a round of 66 to claim medalist honors at an 18-hole local qualifier for the U.S. Open at Summer Grove Golf Club in Newnan, Ga. Broadaway is a past champion of the Georgia Public Links Championship in 2015.  

Others who earned qualifying spots to advance to Sectionals include David Mackey of Watkinsville (67), Thomas Whitley of Hoschton (68), and Thomas Todd of Greenville, S.C. (68). 
 
Five players crowded the leaderboard at 3-under-par 69, so a playoff was needed to determine the final four spots and first alternate position. James Clark of Columbus birdied the first playoff hole to secure a spot. William Rainey of Charlotte, N.C. and Tadd Fujikawa of Honolulu, Hawaii both birdied the second playoff hole to get in. Joey Savoie of Canada and Wade Binfield of Fayetteville went three more holes with Savoie making par on the fifth playoff hole to claim the final spot making Binfield the first alternate.

There were five players tied at 70 competing for the second alternate position. Spencer Ralston made par on the fourth playoff hole to claim the spot.

Summer Grove Golf Club played to 6,917 yards and par 72.

A second local qualifier in Georgia will take place Monday, May 15, at Stone Mountain Golf Club. Sectional qualifying will consist of 36 holes of stroke play conducted at two international sites (Japan and England) and 10 United States' sites on June 5, including Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground.

The 117th U.S. Open Championship will be held at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisc., June 12-18. Entries were open to any professional and to amateurs with USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 1.4. The U.S. Open is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
