Two players tied for medalist honors to earn spots in the U.S. Amateur Championship at a qualifier at Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta. Matias Sanchez of Australia (68-69) and Georgian Chris Waters of Atlanta (67-70) both finished at 7-under-par 137 to qualify. Two other Georgians earned spots, including Steven Fisk of Stockbridge at 6-under-par 138 (69-69) and Thomas Hogan of Brunswick at 5-under-par 139 (70-69).
Four players finished at 3-under-par 141, including David Mackey of Watkinsville, Ga., (75-66), Franco Castro of Atlanta, Ga., (72-69), Jonathan Klotz of Atlanta, Ga., (69-72) and Parker Dudley of Mebane, N.C., (68-73). Dudley made birdie on the first playoff hole to earn the first alternate spot, while Mackey made birdie on the third extra hole to finish as second alternate.
The 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship will be held at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., August 14-20. The U.S. Amateur Championship is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
