The second qualifier was held at Capital City Club-Crabapple in Roswell and Georgia Tech golfer Luke Schniederjans of Alpharetta posted an 8-under-par 132 (64-68) to earn medalist honors. Also qualifying for the national championship were Benjamin Shipp of Raleigh, N.C., at 7-under-par 133 (66-67), Andy Ogletree of Meridian, Miss., at 6-under-par 134 (65-69) and Georgian Spencer Ralston of Gainesville at 6-under-par 134 (63-71).
A playoff was needed to determine the first and second alternates between Georgians Jonathan Keppler of Marietta (68-68) and Travis Steed of Macon (66-70), both at 4-under-par 136. It took seven extra holes, but in the end Keppler made his putt for par on number 17 to finish as the first alternate. Steed finished as second alternate.
The 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship will be held at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., August 14-20. The U.S. Amateur Championship is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
